Our Assessment: The Arisaka Type 99 was Japan’s primary service rifle during World War II and is known for its durability and unique design features. Unlike many other military rifles of its time, it featured a chrome-lined bore and was built to withstand harsh battlefield conditions.
This particular Type 99 retains its original military configuration, including its distinctive anti-aircraft rear sight. Some late-war examples saw cost-cutting measures, but early and mid-war models were well-crafted and robust. The Arisaka is regarded as one of the strongest bolt-action rifles of the era, with its receiver being highly resistant to overpressure loads.
For collectors, an Arisaka Type 99 represents an important piece of World War II history, with variations in markings and configurations making them highly collectible. Whether you are a military arms enthusiast, a shooter looking for a unique bolt-action rifle, or a collector seeking a piece of Japanese military history, this rifle is a great addition.
