Our Assessment: The Tavor X95 XFD16CA is a California-compliant version of Israel Weapon Industries’ modern bullpup rifle, chambered in 5.56 NATO and featuring a 16.5″ barrel integrated into its compact overall length. This configuration complies with California law by including a fixed magazine release system that requires a tool to remove the magazine. Despite the legal modifications, the rifle maintains the X95’s core advantages: a balanced, center-weighted feel, reduced overall length without sacrificing barrel length, and superior maneuverability in confined spaces.
This particular setup includes several notable upgrades. A Geissele trigger greatly refines the X95’s trigger pull, replacing the factory trigger with a crisper, cleaner break that significantly improves accuracy and control. The mounted Inforce flashlight provides practical illumination for low-light conditions, while the optic setup includes a Meprolight red dot for fast target acquisition and an EOTech flip-to-side magnifier, giving the shooter versatility for both close quarters and extended-range shooting. Altogether, this build transforms the already capable X95 into a high-performance, mission-ready platform that remains compliant without sacrificing functionality.
