Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “D.S. POLICE SPECIAL / MODEL 37 – FEATHERLIGHT – 12 GA. – 2 3/4 CHAMBER – PROOF TESTED / ITHACA GUN CO., INC. ITHACA, N.Y. MADE IN USA – ROTO FORGED”, with an anvil. The right side of the barrel is marked with an anvil proof. The right side of the receiver is marked with the serial number and an anvil proof.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a pink fiber-optic blade in a serrated, ramped base screwed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a “V”-notch leaf and elevator sight dovetailed to a base fixed to the rear of the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two piece walnut with grooved slide handle, pistol grip, straight comb, basketweave textured black rubber Pachmayr Presentation buttpad and a sling stud in the belly (the other is mounted to the bottom of the barrel’s magazine lug). The stocks have a few scattered minor marks and a couple of more notable scratches at the toe. There is a crack at the front of the wrist on the bottom-left and another on the top-right. The LOP measures 14 1/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad, 13 1/4″ to the back of the wood. The pad has minor wear. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at some edges. There are a few scattered minor nicks and scuffs. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This shotgun will slam-fire. The shotgun ejects out the bottom of the receiver. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is an Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight D.S. Police Special. The 37 was produced in a number of configurations, and this is one of the more popular for both law enforcement and home defense. It would also make a good gun for hunting with slugs or buckshot. It is fast-handling and will combine with the 37’s notably smooth action and ability to slam-fire to make it a great gun for each of these purposes. This is also a nice example of one of the more desirable Featherlight models, great to add to an Ithaca collection. Please see our pictures and good luck!
