The stock and sight are described below.
Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “DRC IHC”. The elevation knob is marked from “2-12” in increments of 2 and “S SI”.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The barrel channel of the stock is marked “2212”. The left side of the stock, above the trigger, is marked with a faded Defense “Eagle” acceptance stamp. The face of the grip is marked with a faded “circled P” proof.
The three piece hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nosecaps, stacking loop, two sling loops, and a metal buttplate with hinged metal door for storage in the butt. The buttplate shows numerous small scrapes & small scratches as well as pin prick surface erosion. The wood shows several scrapes, scratches and compression marks. Many have damaged small portions of surface wood. These marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.
Type of Finish: Parkerized
Finish Originality: Original to Rebuild
Bore Condition: The muzzle and grooves are grey. The rifling is deep. There is fouling and intermittent erosion in the grooves and at the muzzle. The bore shows an M.E. of 1.5. The throat shows a T.E. of 3.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The metal shows scuffs, light scrapes and thinning on the leading edges of the metal. The gas tube is unfinished. It shows scrapes. The bottom rear of the receiver has some pin prick surface erosion showing through the new finish. This area also shows thinning. The receiver legs show light thinning. The front of the bolt and right side of the receiver show some thinning from cycling. The markings are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Certificate. It lists the rifle’s serial number and lists the model as “M1 Garand IHCS”. The “S” stands for “Service Grade”. It shows areas of light soiling & light creasing. Overall certificate is in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition. The rifle also comes with an M1 Garand manual. It shows creasing and is in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.
Our Assessment: This International Harvester M1 Garand was made back in the 1950’s and is still in Very Good Plus condition. It was purchased through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) in 2018 as a “Service Grade” M1 Garand. The rifle comes with a CMP Certificate of Authenticity and an M1 Garand manual.
