Markings: There is no visible import mark. The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. CARBINE / CAL. 30 M1” on the front and “INLAND DIV. / 5045498” on the rear. The top of the barrel is marked “INLAND MFG. DIV. / GENERAL MOTORS / 8 – 44” as well as “P”. The barrel flat is marked with several inspection stamps. The right rear of the trigger group is marked “INLAND” which is an Inland mark (page 78 of Craig Riesch’s book, U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production 7th Edition). The hammer is marked with a partial “HI” which is an Inland mark (page 89). The smooth push button safety is unmarked which is consistent with Inland and others (page 95). The magazine release is marked “M” and “EI” which is an Inland mark (page 98). The inside of the operating slide is marked “PI” which is an Inland mark (page 65). The bolt is marked “AI’ ” on the left lug which is an Inland mark (page 36). The front sight is marked “N” which is consistent with Inland and others (page 56). The Type I rear sight is marked “S” on the right; it has been installed backwards. All Type I rear sights are marked “S” on the left side (page 29). The Type II barrel band is marked “PI in a triangle” which is an Inland mark (page 58- 59). The interior of the handguard is marked “OI” which is an Inland mark (page 138). The sling well is marked “OI” which is an Inland mark (pages 108- 109). The left side of the buttstock is marked with an Ordnance Department “crossed cannons” cartouche.
The rear of the magazine is marked “A.I.” which is an Inland mark (page 142-143).
The Type II soft case is marked “U.S.” on the exterior and “M-D. MFG. CO. / 1944” on the interior (page 154).
Barrel Length: Approximately 18 Inches
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a post set between two protective wings. The Type I rear sight is a flip up dual aperture assembly.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, Type II barrel band with sling loop, sling well, sling pass through, and a metal buttplate. The buttplate shows scrapes and spots of oxidation; mostly on the edges. The wood shows scrapes, scratches, and compression marks. Some have damaged small portions of the surface wood. Most of the marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 ¼ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright; light grey near the muzzle. The rifling is sharp. There is fouling near the muzzle. There is some light frosting in the grooves near the muzzle. The fouling should clean up a bit. The bore shows an M.E. of 1.5.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The metal shows small scrapes, light handling marks, and a few areas of light discoloration. The right side of the receiver & bolt show some light thinning consistent with cycling. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a canvas soft case, canvas sling, and a 15 round magazine. The soft case shows discoloration and scrapes. The leather shows cracking. Overall it is in about Very Good Plus condition. The sling shows discoloration and soiling. It is in about Very Good Plus condition. The magazine shows scrapes & small scratches. It is in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition.
