Our Assessment: Introduced in 1913 and produced through the First World War, the Lange Pistole 08 was Germany’s effort to extend the reach of the P.08 platform for artillerymen, storm troops, and specialist units needing a sidearm capable of accurate fire at greater distances. Its distinctive 8-inch barrel and fine toggle lock gave it a unique silhouette on the Western Front, where it became one of the most recognizable pistols of the Imperial era. Built by DWM in 1915, this example reflects that wartime production period in which the Luger design—already celebrated for its precision machining—was pushed into mass service amid rapidly expanding Imperial requirements.

Chambered in 9mm Parabellum, a cartridge introduced in 1902 and soon adopted across Europe for its manageable recoil and dependable performance, the Artillery Luger carried the same proven ballistic character familiar to later generations. Even with later refinishing and replacement components, this pistol retains the unmistakable presence of a Great War sidearm marked by its long barrel, iconic toggle system, and purposeful martial form. It remains a tangible artifact of Germany’s early semi-automatic military technology as it evolved under wartime pressure. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! -N.P
