Our Assessment: The AMP-69 is a Hungarian modification of the AK/AKM lineage developed as a grenade-firing variant of the AMD-65. Designed in 1969 and produced by Fegyver- és Gépgyár, it was intended to give Hungarian troops a compact, selective-fire rifle that could also launch rifle grenades using special blank cartridges and an auxiliary sighting arrangement; it entered service with Hungarian forces in the 1970s.
Functionally the AMP-69 retains the 7.62×39 mm gas-operated, rotating-bolt action of its AMD/AK relatives but adds grenade-specific features: a reinforced/reciprocating handguard, a shock-absorbing butt, provisions for a grenade-launching sight and mount, and modifications to allow safe launching of muzzle grenades. These changes make it a multi-role, compact assault rifle suited for both standard infantry use and rifle-grenade employment without a separate grenade launcher.
