Our Assessment: High Standard had a long history of manufacturing target pistols going back to before WWII, so they had lots of time to perfect the design. The Victor was added to High Standard’s military model line in 1971 and incorporated a feature frequently added to High Standard pistols by gunsmiths for target shooters, a sight rib. Originally, the model was offered with a ventilated steel rib, later weight was reduced by making the ribs from alloy and a solid rib option was added to the Victor model. Later, the solid ribs would be discontinued and only the alloy vent-ribs were offered, such as on this example. This example was made in 1980 and has a 5 1/2″ slab-side barrel with one weight installed. The pistol is in Very Good-Fine condition with some scattered minor wear in the metal, minor handling wear in the stocks, a great bore and strong mechanics. This should make someone an outstanding target pistol that should easily rival most of the newer target pistols being manufactured today. Please see our photos and good luck!
