Our Assessment: High Standard had a long history of manufacturing target pistols going back to before WWII, so they had lots of time to perfect the design. Their line of pistols changed significantly throughout their history and they even moved their factory from Hamden to Hartford in 1977. The 101 series was a transitional series which incorporated their push-button barrel release instead of the earlier lever-latch but retained the barrels being dovetailed to the frame instead of indexing on a post. The Olympic was High Standard’s .22 Short target pistol and the 101 series introduced an alloy slide for the low-powered .22 Short cartridge. Aimed at Olympic rapid-fire competitors, the pistol was offered with a 6 3/4″ barrel with integral muzzle brake, but could also be had with a 4 1/2″ barrel or a combination of both. The model number on the end of the included factory box, “9123”, is for the two-barrel set, indicating that this set is all original, shipped with both barrels. Also included is a set of barrel weights, currently installed on the 6 3/4″ barrel, allowing the user to alter the weight and balance of the pistol. This Olympic 101 is less common than many other High Standards, making it a great piece to add to a collection. It should also still serve well as a target pistol as originall designed. Please see our photos and good luck!
