Our Assessment: The Harrington & Richardson HK4 is a fascinating piece of Cold War-era engineering, designed by Heckler & Koch and imported under license to the U.S. market by H&R. Unique among compact pistols of the time, the HK4 was engineered as a true modular handgun—capable of quickly converting between .22 LR, .32 ACP, and .380 Auto calibers using interchangeable barrels, recoil springs, and magazines. For collectors and shooting enthusiasts alike, this flexibility makes the HK4 an intriguing and versatile addition to any collection.
This example is in Very Good condition, retaining about 95% of its original finish and showing only light operational wear. The bore is pristine, and the pistol comes complete with all three caliber kits, including original magazines and tools. These complete kits have become increasingly difficult to find in unmolested condition, especially with factory components intact.
Whether you’re looking for a compact collectible with modular flair or a reliable shooter that represents a clever chapter in H&K’s design history, this HK4 stands out. Please see our high quality photos and good luck on your bid! -M.C.
