Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The receiver is mounted with a Redfield 4-12x with a crosshair reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows no notable wear. Overall, the scope is in Excellent condition. The scope is mounted on a one-piece Leupold-style base, and sits in 1” rings. The scope comes with Butler Creek brand flip-up scope covers.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece skip-line checkered walnut stock, with a rosewood capped semi-pistol grip, rosewood capped forend, monte carlo comb with cheekpiece, ventilated rubber buttpad, and sling rings front and rear. The LOP measures 13 3/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light wear, with a few minor dings and scratches scattered throughout, and one scuff on the cheekpiece. The checkering is well defined. The gloss finish on the stock is strong throughout. There are no chips or cracks. The stock fits the barreled action tightly, with no play. Overall, the stock rates in Fine to Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion, but there is some fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows almost no wear, other than some superficial imperfections on the metal surfaces. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope and scope covers as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: The Weatherby Mark V is Weatherby’s flagship bolt action — a stout, finely machined receiver designed to handle high-pressure magnum cartridges with authority and repeatable accuracy. This 1967 Mark V, built in partnership with German-made J.P. Sauer & Sohn components and fitted with a handsome skip-line checkered walnut stock with rosewood caps, represents the classic Weatherby blend of premium materials and purposeful form. Fitted with a practical Redfield 4–12x and a one-piece Leupold-style base (with Butler Creek flip-up covers), the rifle presents as a nicely appointed, ready-to-use hunting or long-range varmint platform with an attractive factory appearance and excellent fit-and-finish for its era.

Chambered in .257 Weatherby Magnum — a flat-shooting, high-velocity cartridge developed to deliver rapid, flat trajectories and effective long-range performance on medium game — this example checks very well. The metal retains about 99% of its original blued finish, the bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates 9/10, and the stock is in Fine to Excellent condition with only light handling marks. Mechanically the action functions correctly and the trigger breaks cleanly. Supplied with the scope and covers noted above, the rifle is a clean, well-preserved Mark V that will appeal to hunters who want a classic Weatherby magnum in a nicely finished, ready-to-hunt configuration.
