Our Assessment: Sig Sauer’s P226S X-Five series emerged from the era when German-built Sig pistols represented the peak of the company’s manufacturing quality, and this single-action target variant stands among the most refined service-derived pistols of its generation. Introduced for competition and precision work, the X-Five platform expanded the standard P226 into a heavier, full-length, match-tuned handgun with enhanced lockup, extended sight radius, and the kind of bank-vault slide-to-frame fit that helped define German Sig craftsmanship in the early 2000s. These pistols quickly became favorites among competitive shooters for their reliability, accuracy, and the exceptional trigger geometry that set them apart from service-grade counterparts.
Chambered in 9mm Parabellum, the world’s most widely adopted centerfire handgun cartridge since its introduction in 1902, the X-Five leverages the round’s mild recoil and consistent ballistics to deliver fast follow-up shots and tight groups at distance. The pairing of a match-grade 5-inch barrel with the inherently efficient recoil impulse of 9mm makes this pistol particularly well suited for precision shooting disciplines, where controllability and consistent cycling are paramount.
This example remains in Fine to Excellent condition, retaining nearly all of its stainless finish, sharp mechanical integrity, and a bright, mirror-clean bore. The light single-action trigger, adjustable rear sight, and included factory accessories, including two high-capacity magazines and the original test target, underscore its purpose as a premium competition-ready sidearm. German made X-Five models continue to gain collector interest as production has shifted and original examples have become increasingly scarce. This is a beautifully preserved, highly capable specimen that reflects the best of Sig’s master-built era. Please see our high resolution photos and good luck on your bid! – J.D.
