Our Assessment: The 1936 “S/42” coded Luger made by Mauser, an important part of the Third Reich’s rearmament program. The “S/42” manufacturer code was used to obscure German production in violation of the Versailles Treaty. These pistols were standard sidearms for the German military, chambered in 9mm Luger, and were renowned for their precision machining and distinctive toggle-lock action.

Despite the refinish, this Luger presents well with about 98% of its finish retained. The bore, while showing some light wear and minor erosion, remains serviceable and rates at about 7/10, indicating it could still be a decent shooter with proper care. The grips are walnut with well-defined checkering. For the collector, it offers a chance to own a solid pre-war Mauser Luger with strong markings and history at a more accessible price point than an untouched original finish example.
