Markings: There is no visible import mark. The top of the receiver is marked with a German inspection stamp that was used by Mauser Obendorf “eagle / 135”, “byf”, and “44”. The left side of the receiver is marked with a Nazi “eagle / swastika”, with the serial number, and “Mod. 98”. The right side of the receiver is marked with an “eagle / 135” inspection stamp. The left side of the barrel shank is marked with a Nazi “eagle / swastika”, with an “eagle / 135” inspection stamp, and with a partially visible stamping at the wood line. The bottom metal is marked twice with the serial number and with 2 “eagle / 135” inspection stamps. The barrel band, nosecap, and underside of the rear sight are marked with the last 4 digits of the serial number. The bolt assembly is marked with numbers that do not correlate to the serial number, “S42”, with a small “eagle” Waffenampt, and with 3 “eagle” inspection stamps. The right side of the butt is marked with what appears to be a faded “eagle” Waffenamt.
Barrel Length: Approximately 23 ¾ Inches
Markings: The front sight is an inverted “V” post set atop a small ramped base and under a removable protective hood. The rear sight is a “V” notched blade attached to a sliding sight escalator assembly marked from “1-20”.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The laminate stock has been coated with lacquer. It has a pistol grip, metal nose cap, hole for the included cleaning rod, barrel band with sling bar, scallop for the bolt handle, through bolt, sling well, sling pass through, domed washer, and a metal buttplate. The buttplate shows small scratches, oxidation, and pin prick surface erosion. The nosecap and barrel band have been coated in lacquer. They show scratches, oxidation, and discoloration. The wood shows numerous scrapes, scratches, and compression marks. Many have damaged or removed small portions of the surface wood. Most of these marks have been finished over. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates are in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The grooves and muzzle are grey. The rifling is deep. There is fouling and frosting at the muzzle and in the grooves. The fouling should clean up a bit.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 84% of its metal finish. The metal shows scrapes, small scratches, and spots discoloration. The front of the barrel shows light surface erosion. The barrel shank shows oxidation. The bottom metal shows thinning. The screw heads show use. The markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This WWII Nazi marked German K98 was made at the Mauser Oberndorf factory in Germany back in 1944. The receiver and barrel shank are correctly marked with clear “eagle / swastika” marks on the receiver & barrel as well as other small German “eagle” inspection stamps. The K98 bolt is a replacement but it also has nice markings. This is a good looking Military rifle with some history behind it. It will add to your WWII or Mauser collection.
