The thinned portions of the metal show discoloration from oxidation. The screw heads show use. Most of the markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus condition as refinished
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: This Nazi marked German Mauser K98 was made at Mauser Oberndorf back in 1940. It most likely saw service during the war but still has great markings on the metal & wood. The markings include lots of matching part numbers, eagles, swastikas, and Waffenamts. The metal has been refinished and the stock has been oiled so this K98 looks impressive for its age. The “eagle / 655” inspection stamps and the “eagle / WaA655” Waffenampts are the correct markings for a 1940 Mauser Oberndorf K98. For more specifics on the markings see page 234 of Richard D. Law’s book, Backbone of the Wehrmacht.
