Our Assessment: This German-made Anschutz Model 54 Match represents one of the most respected smallbore target rifle actions ever produced, a benchmark in international competition for decades. Manufactured in West Germany in 1979, the Model 54 action became synonymous with precision, consistency, and mechanical refinement, dominating Olympic, World Championship, and national-level matches throughout the latter half of the 20th century. Anschutz’s emphasis on tight tolerances, superior barrel quality, and refined trigger systems is clearly embodied in this rifle’s configuration and overall execution.
Chambered in .22 Long Rifle and fitted with a 26 inch barrel, this single-shot bolt-action rifle is purpose-built for precision target shooting. The globe front sight and factory Anschutz micro-adjustable rear aperture sight provide an exceptionally fine and repeatable sight picture, ideal for prone, position, and benchrest-style disciplines. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, showing only light fouling, a strong indicator of excellent remaining barrel life and continued competitive potential. The single-shot configuration further reflects its match-oriented role, emphasizing deliberate, disciplined shooting.
Overall, this example presents in very good plus condition, retaining approximately 97 percent of its original blued finish with only light handling and operational wear visible, including minor thinning at the muzzle. The walnut target stock shows honest use with scattered marks and a noticeable scuff at the front of the comb, but remains structurally sound and fully functional, with adjustable length of pull via spacers. Mechanically, the action and safety function correctly, and the trigger exhibits the extremely light, crisp break for which Anschutz match rifles are renowned. Complete with a custom case and accessories, this Model 54 Match stands as a classic competition rifle from Anschütz, offering enduring precision and historical significance within the world of smallbore target shooting.
