Our Assessment: Freedom Arms Model 83 revolvers are widely regarded as some of the finest production single-action revolvers ever built, and this Premier Grade chambered in .454 Casull is a prime example. Built in Freedom, Wyoming, the Model 83 set the standard for big-bore single actions, combining bank-vault lockup, superb fit and finish, and incredible strength to handle the immense pressures of the .454 Casull cartridge—a round that was once the most powerful handgun cartridge in the world.
This particular revolver features a 4 3/4″ round barrel, making it a compact yet formidable package. The stainless steel finish is in Excellent condition, retaining about 99% with only the faintest turn line on the cylinder and a few superficial handling marks. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, rating 9/10, ensuring it still has years of shooting life left. The smooth laminated hardwood grips complement the clean stainless construction and show no notable wear, fitting the frame tightly. Mechanically, the revolver is as sound as the day it left the factory, with a crisp trigger break and a cylinder that locks up tight with minimal play.
