Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “FREEDOM ARMS .454 CASULL / *FREEDOM, WYOMING U.S.A.*”. The bottom of the frame is marked “DF 8354”. The left side of the frame has a patent number and the right side is marked, “FREEDOM ARMS / FIELD GRADE”.
Barrel Length: 6” Mag-Na ported.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated black blade set into a raised base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a drift adjustable rectangular notch dovetailed to the topstrap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a single piece Pachmayer checkered black rubber overmold monogrip. There are light scuffs and wear marks throughout. There are no rips or chunks missing. The checkering is sharp. The grips are in Very Good to Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no visible erosion. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its finish. The turn line is crisp and very thin. There are light spots of patina scattered throughout. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions as intended. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. Side Loading Gate.

Our Assessment: This Freedom Arms Model 83 Field Grade revolver in .454 Casull is one of the finest examples of precision-engineered big-bore handguns available on the market. Built in Freedom, Wyoming, the Model 83 is renowned for its tight tolerances, superb accuracy, and unmatched strength—qualities that make it the gold standard among single-action revolvers for hunting and high-powered target shooting. Chambered in the formidable .454 Casull, it offers serious stopping power and excellent long-range capability, while still retaining the traditional single-action character.
This example features a 6” barrel with Mag-Na-Porting to help tame recoil, and it’s built with a matte stainless steel finish that shows only minor handling wear and scattered light patina. The bore is in excellent condition—bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion—earning a 10/10 rating in this writer’s opinion. The revolver retains about 98% of its finish and has a very faint turn line. It wears a Pachmayr rubber monogrip that provides secure handling and enhanced recoil control. With its clean mechanical function and rugged design, this Field Grade Model 83 is a top-tier revolver for the serious shooter or handgun hunter. -R.E.
