Markings: The right side of the barrel is marked “CALIBER .300 WIN. MAG. ONLY / MADE IN BELGIUM”. The left side of the barrel is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY” and there are Belgian proofs on the chamber. The left side of the chamber ring has Belgian proofs. The right side of the chamber is marked with the serial number. The bolt is matched and the underside of the arm is marked “30170”. The outward and rear-facing sides of the base of the bolt handle have small proofs. The firing pin lug is marked with a small boxed number. The bottom of the floorplate and trigger guard have decorative pinstripe style engraving with a gold color fill.

Barrel Length: 24”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade dovetailed into a serrated ramped base fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flat-topped “U” notched sight with a white triangle aiming point below the notch. The rear sight is adjustable for both windage and elevation. The top of the receiver is installed with a pair of bases.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut with pistol grip, Monte Carlo comb with cheekpiece, throughbolt, sling studs front & rear, and a Browning brown rubber buttpad. This is not a saltwood stock. There are a few scattered little draglines and compressions. There are one or two tiny little marks through the finish but they have colored with age. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is strong. The LOP measures approximately 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The pad has some light handling wear, no rips or tears. The stock rates in about Fine condition.

Type of Finish: The rifle is blued. The trigger guard and floorplate are black alloy. The bolt handle and bolt are brightly polished and “In The White”.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is is bright and the rifling is sharp. There are a few little tiny patches of some light surface erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 93% of its metal finish. The receiver has thinning on the edges. There are some spots of dark discoloration on the bolt assembly from previous oxidation. There are some little marks through the finish on the trigger guard and floorplate. There is some wear on the edges of the trigger guard. There are some scattered scuffs on the barrel that have thinned the finish. There is some finsih loss on the edge of the muzzle. There are some little spots of finish loss from previous oxidation that have some small spots of pinprick erosion, most noticeable on the top of the barrel. The screw slots are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. There is a manual safety on the right rear of the receiver. As with all firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Manufactured in 1965, this rifle turned 56 this year, though you would not be able to tell by looking at it. This Browning High Power Safari Grade rifle is in about Very Good condition with 93% original finish remaining. It is chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum and the bore has deep, sharp rifling.  The bore can still do plenty of work at the range or in the field, this is a great rifle to pick up to take hunting, target shooting, or to add to your C&R collection.
