Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q.”. The right side of the slide is marked “MADE IN BELGIUM BY FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL”. The barrel is marked “CAL. 9mm L./245PY44719”. The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number “245PY44719” and the right side of the trigger guard bow is marked with a Belgian proof.

Barrel Length: 4 5/8”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a rear sloping blade with and orange insert, attached to a base that is fixed to the slide. The rear sight is an adjustable square notch that is dovetailed to the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are a two piece rubber Pachmayr grip set with checkering texture and thumb rests. There is no notable wear on the grips. Overall, the grips rate in about Excellent condition.  

Type of Finish: Silver Chrome 

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates a 10/10. 

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 99+% of its metal finish. The action has minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp, and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this pistol is in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is crisp. The disconnect safety is present and functional. We have not fired this pistol, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a nylon holster, two blued magazines in Excellent condition, and one silver chrome magazine in Excellent condition. 

Our Assessment: This Browning Hi-Power Practical, manufactured in 1982 by FN Herstal in Belgium, represents one of the more refined iterations of John Browning’s legendary 9mm design. Chambered in 9mm Luger and featuring the desirable silver chrome finish, this model was part of a limited production run tailored for competitive shooting and serious defensive use. The Practical variant stands out with a robust set of features: improved sights with an orange-insert front blade and adjustable rear, and factory-drilled slotted components to accommodate high-round count durability.

What makes this particular example all the more attractive is its overall condition. The silver chrome finish retains a factory-new luster, the Pachmayr grips are unworn, and the bore is pristine. The addition of three magazines—two blued and one matching silver chrome—as well as a holster, rounds out a complete package that’s as shootable as it is collectible.
