Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT NEW FRONTIER S.A.A. .357 MAGNUM” and the top “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.”. The left of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19. 1871 / JULY 2. 72 JAN. 19. 75” and with a rampant colt logo. The bottom of the frame is marked “3226NF” in front of the trigger guard.
Barrel Length: 7 1/2”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated, ramped blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch adjustable for windage and elevation in a base pinned to the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth wood with rampant colt medallions. There is no handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99.5% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows no operation wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with a Colt letter, factory box, paperwork, and colt tool.
Our Assessment: Colt produced a bit under 1,000 “Flattop Target” Single Action Army revolvers during the 1st Generation run of manufacture. In 1962, to capitalize on President Kennedy’s space exploration rallying crying of the “New Frontier”, Colt reintroduced the Flattop Target SAA, and christened it with JFK’s plucky space age locution.
This is a Colt New Frontier made in 1962, the first year of production. The revolver is in Excellent condition with 99.5% of its finish remaining and appears lightly used.
