Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “CA. .17 REM. MADE IN FINLAND”, along with a proof mark. The right side of the barrel is marked with Tikka/Beretta’s 2-line warning and import address. The left side of the receiver is marked “TIKKA M595”, along with the serial number and a proof mark.

Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The receiver is grooved, drilled, and tapped for optics.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut stock, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted monte carlo comb, rubber buttpad, wide forend, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 14” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows only minor handling wear, with two small scratches at the bottom of the semi-pistol grip. The stock’s finish is intact, and the wood grain is attractive. The checkering is well defined with sharp peaks. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some light fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows minor to light wear, with only superficial hairline imperfections in the metal surfaces, and one small spot of surface corrosion on the top of the receiver, more specifically, the front scope base screw. Otherwise, the bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads range from tooled to sharp, but all retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Tikka’s M595 series earned a strong reputation among precision shooters and varmint hunters for its exceptional out-of-the-box accuracy, smooth bolt travel, and refined Finnish craftsmanship. Built from the late 1980s into the early 2000s, the M595 was part of Tikka’s pre-T3 generation and well regarded for its robust receivers, crisp triggers, and the company’s consistent cold-hammer-forged barrels. This example chambered in .17 Remington reflects the quality of that era: the walnut stock is clean and sharply checkered, the metal finish remains deep and even, and the rifle shows only minimal handling marks, indicating careful ownership rather than heavy field use.
The .17 Remington cartridge, introduced in 1971, is one of the fastest commercial centerfire rounds ever developed, pushing lightweight .17-caliber bullets at extremely high velocities for flat trajectories and explosive terminal performance on varmints. Its low recoil and superb precision potential make it an ideal pairing for a heavy-contour 26-inch barrel like the one found on this rifle. The bright, sharply rifled bore underscores the M595’s accuracy pedigree, while the controlled, smooth bolt operation and excellent trigger contribute to its reputation as a serious varmint and target rifle.
