Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. The cylinder has minor turn-wear, not through the finish. There are a few scattered minor nicks and scuffs. Otherwise, there is no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup is very tight with only barely perceptible play on each chamber. The trigger pull is crisp. This revolver has a fixed cylinder bushing but has a “black powder” frame, with the cylinder pin retained by a screw, rather than a sprung cross-bar. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a Colt wood presentation case with a red velvet-lined french-fit interior. There was a lock on the front of the case, but it has been removed. The exterior of the case has some scattered light scuffs and scratches with a visible seam between the two pieces of the lid and a grain-line crack running side-to-side at the right edge of the lid toward the top. The interior has minor wear from the revolver. Overall, the case is in about Good condition. We have contacted Colt and ordered a factory letter. This revolver is confirmed as shipping in its current configuration including “C”-class engraving and fancy walnut grips. If the letter does not arrive before the auction closes, it will be forwarded to the winning bidder.
Our Assessment: Produced in 1986, this is a beautifully engraved Colt Frontier Six Shooter, the same as their iconic Single Action Army, but chambered for Winchester’s popular .44-40 cartridge. It is interesting in that it is a 3rd Generation revolver with a mix of features, having a fixed cylinder bushing paired with a “black powder” frame. Its gorgeous metal finish and “C”-class engraving are set off by its factory deluxe carved and checkered walnut grips. The revolver is in Excellent condition and presents well in its nice case. This is a great firearm to add to any collection in America. Please see our photos and good luck!
