Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER ® MODEL 94 AE XTR  CAL. .30-30 WIN. / –MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL–”. The top of the barrel at the rear is marked with a circled “WP” proof. The underside of the receiver is marked with the serial number “ DU861622”. 

Engraving:  Both sides of the receiver exhibit beautiful border engraving with hunting scenes on each side  The left side of the receiver depicts a flock of ducks flying over a pond with “DUCKS UNLIMITED” engraved in the center. The right side of the receiver depicts a buck in a forest setting with a couple of does.  All of the engraving is over an antiqued-silver finish stainless steel background.

Barrel Length: 20”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a tall blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a semi-buckhorn u-notch sight. The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled for scope options (none present). 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece checkered deluxe walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and a crescent steel buttplate.  There is a pewter “Ducks Unlimited” medallion embedded into the right side of the buttstock.  The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. There are very few minor compressions or scratches. The LOP measures 13 1/ 2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. Overall, the stocks are in about Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.  In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The action shows very light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Rebounding hammer. The trigger pull is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94 AE XTR in .30-30 Winchester represents one of the more interesting chapters in the Model 94’s long history. Introduced in the late 1895, the .30-30 Winchester has been a venerable hunting caliber for well over a century.  Chambered in this cartridge, the 94 AE XTR offered hunters a hard-hitting rifle capable of taking larger game while still retaining the fast handling and portability that made the Model 94 famous. The Angle Eject (AE) design allowed for top-mounted optics, a feature long requested by hunters, further modernizing the platform.

This commemorative engraved Ducks Unlimited model remains in excellent condition with nearly all of its original blue finish and Antiqued silver, sharp checkering, and a bright, crisp bore. This Ducks Unlimited Commemorative was a limited edition run of 2800 models in 1986.  The deluxe walnut stock with checkering provides a comfortable cheek weld for scoped shooting, while the Winchester crescent buttplate lends a sense of historical significance to this configuration. For collectors, it represents the Model 94 line and a milestone in Winchester’s efforts to adapt the design to modern hunting demands, combined with beautiful engraving for a display rifle. For hunters, it remains a capable and practical rifle for medium to large game, combining the heritage of the Model 94 with the punch of the .30-30 Winchester cartridge.
