Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT D.A. 45”. The top is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. / PAT’D AUG. 5, 1884. JUNE 5, 1900. JULY 4, 1905.”. The crane cut is marked “24654” and “3”. The crane is marked “24654″. The left trigger guard bow is marked with a “3”. The butt is marked “U.S. / M.C. / No / 395”. The revolver has extensive foliate-scroll relief engraving with a cowboy scene on the sideplate.
Barrel Length: 5 ½”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a tall Patridge style blade. The rear sight is a “U” shaped groove in the top of the receiver.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth bone panels. The interior shows cuts and fills, indicating the grips may have been adapted after being fit to another frame. The grips have some scattered light wear and discoloration. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Very Good-Fine condition as not original to the gun.
Type of Finish: Gold
Finish Originality: Refinished, likely at the time of engraving.
Bore Condition: The bore is gray and the rifling is sharp where not interrupted by erosion. There is some scattered light erosion and infrequent minor pitting in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 87% of its current metal finish. The finish is thinning at most edges. There is handling wear in the backstrap. The barrel has scattered spots of finish loss in the un-engraved surfaces. There is scattered light finish loss on the raised portions of the engraved areas. The action shows operational wear. There is some scattered minor discoloration, but most wiped off easily, likely just old grease or lubricant. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings range from clear to removed when refinished/engraved. Overall, the revolver is in about Very Good condition as refinished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup has no play with the trigger depressed on all chambers. The single action trigger pull is crisp and the double action is smooth. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
