Our Assessment: This Egyptian Maadi Hakim rifle is a classic example of Egypt’s postwar effort to field a modern self-loading infantry arm while leveraging proven European engineering. Manufactured at Factory 54 in Maadi during the 1950s, the Hakim was derived from the Swedish Ljungman AG-42B and adapted to the more powerful 8mm Mauser cartridge. The result was a long, robust semi-automatic rifle featuring a direct impingement gas system and an adjustable gas regulator, reflecting Egypt’s emphasis on long-range performance and reliability under demanding service conditions. The Arabic-marked receiver, crown proofs, and dated markings firmly place this rifle within its Cold War military context. Chambered in 7.92x57mm Mauser, the Hakim stands out as one of the few semi-automatic service rifles to employ this full-power cartridge. This example retains approximately 98 percent of its original matte blued finish, with only light handling wear and scattered scratches visible. The bore is semi-bright with sharp rifling, showing light erosion and fouling consistent with military ammunition of the period, and rates about 7 out of 10. The adjustable aperture rear sight marked in Arabic and the hooded front post remain intact, preserving the rifle’s correct military sighting arrangement.

The stock presents well overall, showing light handling marks and retaining crisp military contours, though a small crack is forming at the wrist and is noted for accuracy and transparency. The magazine retains its crowned marking, and the rifle remains complete and mechanically sound in its correct configuration. As a Curio and Relic eligible Hakim, this rifle offers collectors an authentic example of Middle Eastern Cold War small arms development, combining distinctive engineering, uncommon chambering, and strong overall condition. -R.E.
