Our Assessment:
Originally manufactured by Eddystone for the British as a Pattern 1914 rifle during the First World War, this example has been transformed into a sporting rifle chambered in the hard-hitting .405 Winchester. This classic cartridge, once dubbed the “thunderstick” by Theodore Roosevelt, is well suited for large game at moderate ranges and remains a nostalgic favorite among handloaders and traditional hunters.

The rifle retains its military roots through its robust action and British broad arrow proof, while also sporting custom features including an engraved floorplate and a refined walnut stock with checkering and a soft rubber buttpad. The addition of a white bead front sight on a raised boss and scope bases indicates a setup ready for both irons and optics, depending on the shooter’s preference.

If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind sporter built on a historically significant action and chambered in a legendary cartridge, this rifle is a rare and capable platform. Whether taken afield or added to a collection of post-war sporting conversions, it has the kind of character that turns heads and invites stories. So bid high and bid firm. I encourage you to look at the condition of the item in our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
