Our Assessment: The Mauser K-Date Lugers are among the most desirable military Lugers for collectors, representing the very first official production by Mauser for the rearming German military in 1934. The “K” date designation was a deliberate move to conceal production data, as Germany was still under the restrictions of the Treaty of Versailles at the time. These pistols were issued primarily to Wehrmacht troops, and very few escaped wartime attrition in original condition.

This example, marked “S/42” with its original K-Date chamber marking, is a standout among early Mauser military Lugers. Retaining the classic 4” barrel, straw-colored controls, and original blued finish, it embodies early Third Reich production with excellent mechanical integrity and finish.

For collectors of German military handguns, early Luger variations like the K-Date are cornerstone pieces. They represent a transitional period from clandestine to full-scale militarization and are increasingly rare on the market in honest, matching condition.
