Markings: The frame no longer bears its original markings, with no numbers found on the takedown lever, side plate, either piece of the safety, or below the rear sight on the toggle. The extractor and toggle are both marked “64.” The top of the chamber is unmarked. The bottom of the barrel is marked with the serial number “24264.” The stock is marked “309C” and has a “GERMANY” export mark on the wood. The snail drum magazine is marked “668247” and “B/N.” This pistol is likely an assembled firearm with many markings removed or restruck.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a dovetailed blade with a brass bead on a serrated ramp. The rear sight base remains, but the slide-adjustable rear sight is missing.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut. The checkering has worn smooth in areas, particularly on the right panel, which is nearly entirely smooth. The grips are in about Fair overall condition. The external shoulder stock is wood, showing scratches and mars but no cracks or major losses. The leather cup and straps are missing, and the two stock screws have been replaced. The overall condition of the stock is Very Good, while the grip panels are in about Good condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Not original but well-executed.

Bore Condition: The bore is somewhat gray, with sharp and deep rifling. There is mild erosion throughout the length of the barrel.

Overall Condition: This gun retains about 75% of its current metal finish. The high edges, muzzle, front rails, safety, grip frame, and sideplate all show wear. There is thinning and discoloration to the blued finish throughout. The toggle shows wear and finish loss, particularly at the rear hinge grab points. There is scattered pinprick erosion, as well as visible metalwork on the frame near the trigger guard and the rear of the frame, both of which appear to have been refinished. The screw heads are in good, serviceable condition, showing signs of use and minor disfiguration, with some screws appearing to have been cold-blued. Some markings remain clear. Overall, this gun rates in about Fair to Good condition, showing wear but still maintaining a collectible and functional status.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. Note: We cannot provide the snail drum magazine to a California resident or a resident of any state with high-capacity magazine restrictions.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a non-matching snail drum magazine with a metal sleeve/cover and a wooden non-matching stock.

Our Assessment: This 1902 DWM Artillery Luger Carbine is an intriguing historical piece. While it has seen wear and appears to be an assembled example with removed or restruck markings, it remains a desirable and rare configuration. The presence of a 12” barrel, a correct model snail drum magazine with its metal sleeve/cover, and a wooden shoulder stock make this an exceptional set.

The Luger Artillery models, originally intended for extended-range engagements, were used extensively during World War I, often equipped with stocks and drum magazines for increased firepower. While this particular piece has mismatched components and signs of age, it still represents an iconic part of firearms history.

Collectors will appreciate the rarity of this complete ensemble, as finding an Artillery Luger with a shoulder stock and snail drum magazine in any condition is uncommon. For those who enjoy restoring or preserving historical firearms, this Luger offers an exciting opportunity to own a piece of early 20th-century military innovation. Don’t miss the chance to add this unique and rare combination to your collection. So bid high and bid firm. I highly encourage you to take a look at the condition in our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
