Markings: The bottom of the barrel is marked “SH9313 DP PEDERSOLI CAL. 45-70 / MADE IN ITALY CAT. 8996”. The top of the barrel is marked “DIXIE GUNWORKS, INC. CALIBRE 45-70 2 1/10”. The left side of the receiver is marked “ with several proofs and the date code “BS”.
Barrel Length: 30” Medium weight Octagon Barrel. This rifle weighs 11lbs 15OZ.
Sights / Optics: This rifle is mounted with a Globe front sight with simple post insert. The rear sight is a flip-up ladder marked from 1-8 with a small notch sight when the ladder is folded down. Both front and rear sights are dovetailed into the barrel. The tang sight appears to be an MVA(Montana Vintage Arms) Vernier style tang sight with a mid range staff and small eye disc.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture set is a two piece smooth walnut. The buttstock is a shotgun style with pistol grip, straight comb and has a case colored smooth buttplate. The forend is a smooth thin profile Schnabel forend. The length of pull measures 14.25? from the front trigger to the back of the buttstock. There are no visible chips or cracks. The buttplate shows some very minor lines in the finish. The wood shows some minor scattered lines and shallow compressions. Overall the furniture on this rifle is in about Very Good+ condition.
Type of Finish: The barrel is blued and the receiver, lever, buttplate, and hammer are color case hardened.
Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is well defined. There is visible lead fouling throughout the bore. The lead should be removable with a proper cleaning. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 8/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The finish shows only minor handling wear with some scattered minor marks. There are a few small scattered patches of surface rust that have formed. The most notable of which is on the left hand side of the rear sight on the barrel. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: This rifle has double set triggers, which function correctly. The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
