Caliber/Gauge: The shotgun barrels are chambered for 12 gauge, 2 3/4? shells. The rifle barrel is chambered for .30 or 7mm. You will want to cast the chamber to confirm prior to firing.

Action Type: Side Lock External Hammer Three-Barrel Drilling With Extractor, 3 Trigger.

Markings:  The top of the rib is marked “D.KIRKWOOD BOSTON”.  The barrel flats are each marked “D.KIRKWOOD”, “1169”.  Both barrels have a proof mark.  Both sides of the watertable are marked “1169”, “D.KIRKWOOD” with a proof.

Barrel Length: 28”

Choke: Fixed.  Left: Full.  Right: Improved Modified.

Sights / Optics: There is an Ivory bead at the front of the rib.  There is a flip up u notch leaf.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with splinter forend with slight schnabel brass tip, round bottom semi-pistol grip, straight comb, serrated hard rubber buttplate. The LOP measures 13” and 14” from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttplate respectively.  There are several repairs around the grip.  The checkering is crisp.  There are scratches and compressions throughout. Overall, the stocks are in about Fair-Good condition given the repairs.

Bore Condition: The bores are gray.  There is erosion in both bores but the left bore has a considerable amount of erosion at the midlength.  There is corrosion in the muzzles.  The rifled barrel is bright with well defined rifling.  There is minor erosion throughout. The left barrel rates 8/10.  The right barrel rates 5/10. The 7mm barrel rates 8/10.

Overall Condition: This drilling gun retains about 50% of its metal finish. The barrels have generally strong finish with some wear on the sides over the forend and thinning at the chambers and muzzle. Most of the case color has gone mute with some remaining around the hammers and on the water table. There are some scattered minor nicks, scuffs and scratches. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. There is scattered intermittent oxidation and corrosion throughout. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Very Good condition as C&R.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrels lock up with no play to the receiver. We have not fired this drilling gun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.  There is a lever in front of the trigger guard that cocks the rifled barrel.  There is a third trigger located above to the right of the front trigger that fires the rifled barrel.
