Our Assessment: The Dan Wesson Pointman Model 7 (PM7) is Dan Wesson’s modern interpretation of the classic 1911 platform offered in .45 ACP, and this example carries the company’s late-2000s styling and fit-and-finish standards with manufacturing tied to the current CZ-USA era of Dan Wesson production. The 1911 action is a short-recoil, single-action design. The .45 ACP cartridge was developed by John Browning in the early 20th century for the model 1911 and it became the U.S. military’s standard service cartridge in 1911 because of its proven stopping power, straight-walled case design and long service history in both military and civilian service.

This Pointman Model 7 presents a five-inch barrel and a brushed stainless finish that is original to the pistol. The grips are a two-piece checkered black wood set and they fit the frame tightly with no play. The checkering is sharp and the grip panels show no notable wear or damage. The two factory eight-round magazines are included and they are in fine to excellent condition. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and shows some fouling consistent with storage and light handling. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9 out of 10. The overall metal finish is essentially complete and retains about 99% of its original brushed stainless finish, with only the most minor superficial imperfections consistent with light operational wear. Mechanically the pistol functions correctly. The grip safety and the thumb safety operated as intended during the mechanical check and the trigger has a crisp, clean break This pistol comes complete with its original serial number matching plastic case, owner’s manual and paperwork, and the two factory magazines noted above. The included case and documentation add to the package’s utility and collector appeal.

This PM7 is a high-quality, well-preserved example of Dan Wesson’s modern 1911, and it should serve equally well as a precision shooter or as a collectible representative of the Dan Wesson/CZ-USA production era. Please check out our high quality photos, and good luck on your bids! – J.D.
