Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a custom one-piece smooth walnut with 10″ accessory rail inlaid to the forend, contoured pistol grip, monte carlo comb with cheekpiece and an adjustable buttplate with orange rubber Pachmayr Old English pad. The stock has scattered nicks and scratches. There are no chips or cracks. As currently adjusted, the LOP measures 13″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The pad has scattered wear, discoloration and cracking. Overall, the stock is in Very Good-plus condition.

Finish Originality: The finish appears Original to the parts. The barrel and trigger are not original to the receiver. The bolt does not have a visible serial marking.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, just a little stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The barrel has some scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. The bolt knob shows handling wear. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tooled with strong sockets/slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition as customized.

Mechanics: Likely due to the custom trigger, the safety cannot be engaged. Otherwise, the action functions correctly. The trigger is very light and crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: This is a very neat bench rest rifle customized by renowned riflesmith Dan Cowen. Chambered for the 6mm BR Remington cartridge in Cowen’s 30″ barrel, a pre-64 Winchester Model 70 receiver was used as the base for the build. The action is mounted in an attractive walnut stock with adjustable buttplate and 10″ accessory rail. The 30″ barrel allows for an impressive sight radius of nearly 35″ between the Redfield Olympic rear receiver sight and the AHG globe-style front sight which has an iris-adjustable aperture. Add in a wonderfully light and crisp trigger assembly, and you have a rifle that ought to shoot lights-out for years to come. Please see our photos and good luck!

Please forgive any typos, I was educated in California. -Bud
