Our Assessment: D-Max Firearms of Pennsylvania produced the Model 100 line during a brief but colorful period in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when small American manufacturers experimented with compact, rugged pistols inspired by World War II submachine-gun architecture. The Model 100P takes clear design cues from the British Sten—tubular receiver, ventilated shroud, minimalist controls—yet adapts the concept into a tight, semi-automatic, pistol-caliber package chambered in .45 ACP. It represents an era when civilian shooters sought affordable, tank-like firearms with military lineage and distinctive visual appeal, and D-Max answered with a platform that is instantly recognizable and mechanically straightforward.

The .45 ACP cartridge, developed by John Browning in 1904 and made famous by the M1911, brings a century of service history to this compact steel-tube pistol. Known for its heavy, subsonic punch and consistent performance, the cartridge pairs surprisingly well with the D-Max’s simple blowback system. This example’s strong 99% finish, crisp walnut furniture, and excellent mechanical presentation suggest minimal use. With its included sling, sharp metalwork, and intact accessories, it stands as a clean, well-preserved representative of a niche American maker and a fascinating chapter in late-20th-century firearms experimentation.
