Our Assessment: The CZ 527 American represents the refined small-action bolt rifles that built CZ-USA’s reputation in the early 2000s for precision, traditional styling, and controlled-feed reliability. Manufactured in the Czech Republic and imported to the United States, the 527 series was built around a mini-Mauser style action scaled specifically for smaller cartridges. The “American” configuration emphasized clean lines without iron sights, a sporter barrel, and classic walnut furniture, aligning it squarely with traditional varmint and light-game hunting roles.
Chambered in .22 Hornet, this rifle is paired with one of the classic small-caliber centerfire cartridges of the 20th century. Originally developed in the 1930s, the .22 Hornet became widely regarded for its mild report, modest recoil, and efficiency on small game and varmints. The 22 inch barrel complements the cartridge’s practical velocity range, while the mounted Weaver Grand Slam 4.5-14×40 scope provides magnification flexibility consistent with precision varmint shooting. The detachable magazine system and CZ’s controlled-feed bolt design reinforce the rifle’s functional reliability.
This example presents in very good overall condition, retaining the vast majority of its original blued finish with only light handling marks visible. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling, the walnut stock is well fitted with defined checkering, and the action functions correctly. With its included scope, sling, and factory magazine, this CZ 527 American stands as a well-kept early-2000s example of a compact European bolt-action rifle chambered in a classic small-game cartridge.
