Markings: The left rear of the receiver is marked with the serial number. The bolt is marked with the company logo followed by “Savage” and the bolt lug is marked “9667. The left side of the chamber is marked “.20 Vartarg”.

Sights / Optics: The rifle has no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver has two pairs of drilled, tapped, and filled holes.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a custom wood stock with a wide flat bottom forend, palm swell pistol grip, straight comb, and black rubber buttpad. The stock does not have any finish applied. There are a few marks but there is no finsih applied and they can simply be sanded off. There are a few oil spots. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures approximately 13 3/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad and 12 3/4″ to the wood. The stock rates in about Excellent condition as an unfinished custom stock.

Finish Originality: The finish is original but the barrel and stock are not original to the gun.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few draglines and light handling marks but nothing major. The markings are clear and the screw heads display light use with no heavy imperfections. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This rifle has a standard shank. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This is a Savage Model 12 BVSS-S rifle that has been customized by a previous owner with tasteful upgrades. It has been installed with a 25″ Lilja heavy barrel chambered for .20 VarTarg and been set in a custom wood stock. It has a standard-size barrel shank. This rifle is in about Excellent condition with 97% of its metal finish remaining. The trigger pull is light and crisp and if you hadn’t guessed by the cleverly named VarTarg caliber name, this rifle would be perfect for varmint shooting or target shooting. This is a sturdy American rifle and something you should consider for your next bolt action rifle.
