Sights/Optics: There is no provision for iron sights on this rifle. The receiver is cut for Ruger rings which have attached a Leupold 24x scope. The scope has scattered minor nicks and few very minor scuffs. The glass is fairly clear. Overall, the scope rates in Fine condition.

Stock Configuration and Condition: The stock is a one-piece walnut with checkered pistol grip and black-capped forend, fluted straight comb, and orange rubber Ruger buttpad. There are sling studs on the belly of the buttstock and the underside of the forend. There is a compression/crack on the left side of the buttstock near the butt. The wood otherwise has just scattered minor dings and a few light compressions, most notable on the buttstock. There is one spot on the left side forend checkering that is worn down. The checkering is otherwise sharp. There are no chips. The LOP is 14” from the front of the Canjar trigger to the back of the buttpad. The buttpad has some minor staining with some scuff wear at the heel and toe. Overall, the stock rates in Good-to-Very Good condition, and were it not for the crack in the buttstock, would rate in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion, but there is minor stubborn fouling in the grooves.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The receiver and bolt release have taken on a light plum hue. The barrel has intermittent minor nicks and a few scuffs. The receiver has a bit of minor operational wear. The action has minor operational wear as well. The screws have light tool marks and strong slots, and all markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork and Accessories: This rifle comes with the installed scope as described above.

Our Assessment: The Ruger M77 is a robust bolt-action rifle designed in 1968 by L. James Sullivan during his short three-years with Ruger. Intended to be a modernized Mauser 98, it featured simplified ejector updates and a newly designed safety system. This rifle dates back to 1977, long before the first major M77 re-tooling in 1991—the major indicator is the original grip tang safety. This example has been modified for target shooting, and it features a custom 27 1/2” heavy barrel chambered for .22 BR (“Bench Rest”) Remington, a cartridge known for its better accuracy and higher velocity than its cousin, .22 long rifle. In Fine condition, this rifle’s only significant wear is relegated to the stock. The bore is in good shape as is the included scope. Good luck and happy bidding!
