There is one ding on the floorplate that shows one small spot of missing finish. The stainless finish on the barrel is bright, and shows no notable wear, other than some residue in the ports of the muzzle brake. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the tang mounted safety. The trigger has been upfitted with a trigger shoe, and the trigger has a light, crisp, and clean break with minimal take-up or over-travel. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: Custom rifles built on the early Ruger M77 action offer a compelling blend of robust construction, classic styling, and excellent accuracy potential, and this example, chambered in the time-honored 7×57 Mauser, is especially appealing. Produced in 1976 and later rebarreled by Atkinson Gun Co., this rifle features a 26-inch stainless barrel marked “7x57mm Special,” paired with a removable radial brake and topped with the exceptionally capable Leupold Mark 4 M1-10x tactical scope. The result is a long-range ready configuration built around a cartridge renowned for mild recoil, excellent penetration, and inherently consistent ballistics.

The 7×57, introduced in 1892, has earned a legendary reputation across continents, favored by hunters such as W.D.M. Bell for its sectional density and deep penetration, and by precision shooters for its balanced internal ballistics. In a custom 26-inch barrel with a pristine bore, the cartridge’s performance is fully realized, offering excellent velocity and superb accuracy.

This rifle remains in very strong condition. Metal finish retention is approximately 98 percent, with only minimal handling marks on the receiver and bottom metal. The stainless barrel is clean and bright, with residue visible only inside the brake ports. The walnut stock shows light but honest handling wear while maintaining tight fit, crisp checkering, and no cracks or structural issues. Mechanically, the rifle functions correctly, with smooth cycling, positive safety engagement, and a clean, light trigger enhanced with a fitted shoe.

The inclusion of a Leupold Mark 4 M1-10x scope, an optic known for rugged construction, precise adjustments, and clear glass positions this rifle squarely into the precision-hunting or long-range field category. Mounted securely in 30mm Ruger rings, the optic complements the rifle’s accuracy-focused configuration perfectly.

With its custom barrel work, iconic chambering, premium optics, and excellent overall condition, this Ruger M77 custom build represents a highly capable and distinctive rifle, equally suited for long-range hunting, precision shooting, or as a refined custom piece in a sporting rifle collection.
