Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light scratches and dings throughout the barrel, and evidence of sanding/polishing on the receiver. There is some light freckling of surface corrosion on the bolt handle. The jeweling on the bolt is still bright and vivid. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has been upgraded, with an unknown aftermarket trigger. As such, the trigger has a light, crisp, and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the magazine and scope as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Remington 700 platform has long served as the foundation for countless custom rifles, and this .221 Remington Fireball build represents a thoughtful, purpose-driven configuration tailored to precision varmint and small game hunting. The combination of a stainless, fluted 22-inch barrel, Hogue overmolded stock, upgraded trigger, and Talley-mounted Nikko Stirling 6–24×50 optic reflects a rifle assembled for stability, accuracy, and consistent field performance. Despite some cosmetic evidence of polishing on the receiver and light marks on the barrel, overall condition remains strong, and the rifle’s mechanical presentation is clean and confident.
The .221 Remington Fireball cartridge, introduced in 1963 for the XP-100 pistol, quickly earned a cult following among varmint shooters for its impressive velocity and efficiency in compact actions. Producing .22-250-like performance but with less powder and recoil, the Fireball excels in lightweight, precision-oriented rifles such as this one. The bright, sharp bore and crisp aftermarket trigger further reinforce the rifle’s suitability for high-accuracy work, while the AI-pattern 10-round magazine adds practical versatility uncommon in rifles chambered for this cartridge. With its capable barrel, excellent optic, upgraded trigger, and modern detachable magazine system, this custom 700 stands as a well-executed precision varmint rifle built on one of America’s most trusted actions.
