Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked with Remington’s Ilion, NY address, and “7MM-08 REM”. The right side of the barrel is marked with a series of proofs. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number, and “Remington / MODEL 700”.

Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Leupold VX-Freedom 2-7×33 scope, with a duplex reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light handling wear. Overall, the scope rates in Excellent condition. The scope is mounted on a one-piece Leupold base, and and sits in 1″ rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece HS Precision composite stock, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, rubber HS Precision buttpad, and sling rings front and rear. The stock has a gray base color with black spiderweb texture. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light wear, with a few light scratches and dings scattered throughout. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Fine condition.

Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some minor fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with a few minor scratches and dings scattered throughout the metal surfaces, and some light operational wear on the bolt and other friction surfaces of the action. The trigger guard is cracked at the back screw hole. The matte bluing is intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Introduced in 1980, the 7mm-08 Remington quickly became one of the most well-balanced hunting cartridges of the modern era. Built by necking down the .308 Winchester to 7mm, it delivered flatter trajectories and excellent terminal performance with modest recoil, an appealing combination for deer, antelope, and even elk inside reasonable distances. By the 1990s and 2000s, when this rifle’s components were produced, the 7mm-08 had already cemented its reputation as one of the most versatile short-action chamberings in North America.
This custom-built example blends the proven Remington 700 ADL action with an H-S Precision composite stock, giving the rifle a stiff, stable, and weather-resistant platform. The matte-blued metalwork remains strong, the bore is excellent, and handling wear is minimal. The Leupold VX-Freedom 2–7×33 scope complements the rifle’s lightweight, quick-handling character, offering clarity and practical magnification for real-world field use. The only notable defect is a crack at the rear of the trigger guard, but the core mechanical condition remains solid and functional.
Altogether, this is a capable, accurate, and thoughtfully configured 7mm-08 hunting rifle; light enough to carry all day, yet built on components renowned for consistency and durability.
