The stock shows light wear, with one small chip at the bottom of the pistol grip, and some leftover tape adhesive on the right side of the buttstock. There are a few light scratches scattered throughout. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. There are no structurally compromising chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is some fouling present. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with some finish thinning at the muzzle around the brake, as well as thinning finish on the leading edges of the trigger guard and floorplate. There are scattered scratches and dings throughout the metal surfaces. The bolt shows operational wear. Otherwise, the finish is largely intact. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are lightly tooled, but retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The aftermarket TriggerTech trigger has a light, crisp, and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with a thread protector, and the scope as mentioned above. Also included with this rifle is a Redding .338 Jarrett Deluxe Die Set, 22 rounds of assorted handloaded ammo (load data taped to ammo boxes), and 183 rounds of fire-formed brass, and 40 rounds of new, unfired brass.
Our Assessment: Built on the proven Remington Model 700 action, this custom rifle in .338 Jarrett represents a purpose-driven, long-range hunting and specialty cartridge build from the era when magnum wildcats were at their peak. The .338 Jarrett, developed by Kenny Jarrett of Jarrett Rifles in South Carolina, was a cartridge created prior to the commercial introduction of the Remington Ultra Magnums, and is a cartridge designed to deliver heavy-for-caliber .338 projectiles at high velocity, offering excellent retained energy and flat trajectory for extended-range big game applications. Its reputation has long been tied to western hunting and experimental long-range performance before modern factory magnums filled that niche. Ammunition for the .338 Jarrett can be sourced through jarrettrifles.com, or brass can be formed with 8mm Remington Magnum cases.
This example wears a substantial 26-inch aftermarket barrel, extended to approximately 28 inches with the radial muzzle brake installed, a configuration that helps maximize velocity while mitigating recoil. The bore remains bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, rating 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion. Optics are handled by a Leupold VX-5HD 3-15×44 scope with Wind-Plex MOA reticle, providing a modern, high-quality pairing to the custom rifle. The scope shows only light handling wear, with clear glass, responsive turrets, and a properly functioning side focus, making it well suited to the cartridge’s intended long-range role.
Condition throughout the rifle reflects careful use rather than abuse. Approximately 90 percent of the matte black metal finish remains, with expected thinning at high-contact points and around the muzzle brake. The composite stock shows light wear consistent with field handling, including a small chip at the base of the pistol grip and minor cosmetic marks, but remains solid with no structural concerns and a tight fit to the action. Mechanically, the rifle functions correctly, and the TriggerTech trigger provides a light, crisp break. Altogether, this Remington 700 .338 Jarrett, and its included components stand as an interesting and capable custom build that bridges classic wildcat history with modern optics and components.
