Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “OREGUNSMITHING”. The left side of the barrel is marked “404 JEFFREY”. The left side of the receiver is marked “D010154 / MADE IN / CZECH REPUBLIC / CZ 550 MAGNUM CZ-USA KANSAS CITY, KS”. The right side of the receiver is marked with a proof mark.
Barrel Length: 26″ Lija Stainless
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a red fiber optic rod, pinned to a ramp, integral to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable U-notch sight, dovetailed to an Express style ramp, screwed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is mounted with a one-piece picatinny rail for optics.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece custom Pendleton Composite Stock, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, Decelerator buttpad, and sling studs front and rear. The stock features a textured black base finish, with green spiderweb accent scattered throughout. The LOP measures 14 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows no notable wear. The stock’s finish is intact throughout. The stock fits tightly to the barreled action with no play, and the barrel remains free-floating from the tip of the stock’s forend, all the way down to the chamber. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition. Pendleton Composite stocks are made by Oregunsmithing, and they have earned a widespread reputation for quality, as they are often used by Montana Rifle Company for their rifles.

Finish Originality: Refinished
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal refinish. The balance of the finish shows minor handling wear, with only a few minor dings in the finish on the barrel that can only be seen in the right lighting. The cerakote finish is intact throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The Timney trigger is set to 3 lbs, and has a crisp and clean break. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s test. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The CZ 550 Magnum has long been admired for its controlled round feed action, massive claw extractor, and rugged reliability, features that trace directly back to the classic Magnum Mauser pattern favored by dangerous game hunters for more than a century. In .404 Jeffrey, one of the great British big-bore cartridges introduced in 1905, the platform truly comes into its own. Though it faded after the mid-20th century, its resurgence among professional hunters and custom rifle builders reflects the cartridge’s enduring practicality for heavy game.
