Our Assessment: This pistol presents the unmistakable King’s treatment: clean slide-to-frame fit, tuned single-action trigger, enhanced controls, and the classic, purposeful silhouette of a custom fighting 1911. King’s was known for practical, reliable performance upgrades rather than flashy cosmetic overhauls, and this example reflects that heritage — crisp edges, hand-refined ergonomics, and the solid mechanical feel that comes from careful, experienced gunsmithing. King’s-style features often include improved thumb safeties, recontoured beavertails, fitted barrels/bushings, action jobs, and upgraded sights, giving the pistol a confident, tuned presence on the bench.

During the 1970s–1990s, King’s Gun Works became a cornerstone of the American custom-1911 world. Their work served competitive shooters, law-enforcement professionals, and serious enthusiasts at a time when high-end, hand-fitted 1911s were emerging as the standard for duty and match pistols. Custom King’s builds from this era are widely regarded for their reliability, clean lines, and field-ready craftsmanship — tangible artifacts of a golden age of Southern California custom-gun culture. This pistol stands at the end of that lineage, just before the company was sold: a well-executed, professionally built 1911-A1 that blends Springfield’s solid foundation with the respected workmanship of King’s Gun Works.
