Our Assessment: This custom left-handed .32 caliber flintlock long rifle is an attractive, thoughtfully executed modern interpretation of the Appalachian “mountain varmint” style—slender, swamped-barreled, and built for accuracy on small game. The unsigned 37″ swamped octagonal barrel, crisp lock function, carved fullstock, engraved brass furniture, and hand-shaped ramrod all point to the hands of a skilled contemporary builder rather than a production shop. The .32 caliber round-ball bore, bright and sharply rifled, reinforces its intended role as a precise, low-recoil small-game and target rifle that echoes the light squirrel rifles of the 19th century.
Condition is excellent, with roughly 99% finish remaining, minimal handling wear, sharp screw heads, and clean metal-to-wood fit. The walnut stock—with raised cheekpiece, carving, and tasteful decoration—adds clear aesthetic value without compromising structural integrity. The bore is exceptionally strong (rated 9/10), and the lock holds reliably at half and full cock with a crisp frizzen and clean trigger pull. For collectors of contemporary longrifles or shooters seeking a finely built traditional muzzleloader, this rifle offers both craftsmanship and performance in a uniquely configured left-handed package. We are no longer offering layaway. Please see our photos and good luck with your bid! -N.P
