Markings:
The top of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS.” in a single line. The serial number “43681” is found on the butt of the grip frame, rear face of the cylinder, barrel latch, and underside of the barrel. This revolver is profusely engraved with custom scrollwork, scalloping, filigree borders, and fine detailing over nearly every visible surface. This is a non-factory engraving job, but it is skillfully executed to a high standard.

Barrel Length: 3.5”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade integral to the barrel. The rear sight is a “V”-notch in the barrel latch.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are smooth ivory, custom-made and well-fitted to the frame. There is natural age toning and minor hairline crazing, but no cracks or major chips. The grips rate in about Excellent condition overall.

Type of Finish: Silver-Plated Frame & Barrel with Case Colored Hammer and Ejector Rod; Fire-Blue Trigger and Screws

Finish Originality: Custom Refinish

Bore Condition: The bore is gray with visible rifling. There is scattered pitting and erosion. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 5/10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 95% of its custom silver-plated finish. There is some minor tarnishing and wear at the muzzle and sharp edges. The engraving is sharp and consistent throughout. The fire-blued screws and trigger retain rich, vivid color, and the case coloring on the hammer and ejector rod is still vibrant. The screw heads are sharp. The markings and serial numbers are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Excellent condition for its age and customization.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrel locks securely and tips up properly. The hammer holds full cock and the cylinder indexes and times well. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
