Make: Defiance of Columbia Falls, MT. The action is made by defiance, but the rifle is custom built with from a variety of manufacturers. It was ultimately assembled by Armstrong Arms of Laguna Hills, CA.

Model: Deviant. Again this is the name of the action used, but the rifle is truly a custom piece.

Markings: The left side of the receiver marked “DEFIANCE / Columbia Falls, MT”. The right side of the chamber ring is marked “DEVIANT” over the serial number, “D9208”. The left side of the chassis is marked “RAPID ADJUSTMENT / TECHNOLOGY” just to the right of the R.A.T. logo. The right side of the magazine well is marked with the Masterpiece Arms logo and “Masterpiece Arms / Competition Edition”. The top of the comb has a thin foam pad also marked with the Masterpiece Arms logo.

Barrel Length: 28”

Sights/Optics: There is no provision for iron sights on this rifle. The top of the receiver has an integral picatinny rail. No rings, mounts, or optics are included.

Stock Configuration and Condition: This is a Masterpiece Arms BA Comp (“Bolt Action Competition”) aluminum chassis with a serrated black rubber buttpad, adjustable cheek riser and length of pull, inclinometer leveling system, machined thumb notch over a textured EVG (Enhanced Vertical Grip) with enlarged right-side palm swell, trigger finger support rest, and enhanced thumb notch, front night vision bridge/picatinny rail, various QD sockets, and a V4 spigot mount. There are just light nicks in the cerakote, notably on the right side below the ejection port. The LOP measures 13 3/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad in the home position. The buttpad is free of wear. Overall, the chassis is in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is well-defined. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: The barrel and action are stainless steel. The barrel has a few very minor marks including a cluster of nicks on the left side near to the receiver and a few nicks that dot the underside and left side. The receiver has intermittent scuffs and hairline nicks on the flats along with a few minor nicks on the edge of the ejection port. Screws and controls are undamaged, and all markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Fine-plus-to-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards. The bayonet locks into place correctly.

Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This custom rifle will ship with a Red Oxx zipper case.

Our Assessment: On offer here is a truly custom longe-range precision rifle. Most often one finds a certain firearm that has been customized to better suit the needs of the shooter, but truly intrepid and serious shooters will sometimes go for the goal and make for themselves something that is suited to them in every way. The basis for this rifle is a Defiance Deviant bolt action fitted with an Armstrong Arms custom heavy barrel, all set in a Masterpiece Arms chassis. All features of this rifle are suited to maximizing the technological capability of the rifle while mitigating the human interaction with it, even down to the vertical grip finger support rest which relegates the trigger pull to just the distal phalanx of the shooter’s hand. Adjustable length of pull and comb allow for ultimate ergonomic comfort, and the assorted picatinny accessory rails allow for attaching bi-pods, night vision, and of course the optic of your choice (please note, no optic is included). While this particular customization does not utilize magazines, the chassis itself does accept AICS type magazines (please note, no magazines are included). Given the single-shot action, we believe this rifle is set up most likely for target shooting, but the chambering for the accurate and dependable 6.5×284 Norma will allow for hunting game up to Elk.
