Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. The top of the receiver is installed with a pair of bases and rings holding an unbranded Japanese 4-16x scope with an odd grid-reticle. The scope body has minor wear with most notable wear on the parallax adjustment turret cap. The glass is fairly clear, but could use a good cleaning.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece oil-finished hand-checkered AA-grade select Claro walnut with a vented beavertail forend, pistol grip, fluted straight comb, and a textured black rubber Pachmayr buttpad. The stock has only a few minor compressions and a couple of very light scratches in the left-side grip checkering. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is well defined. The LOP measures approximately 13 7/8″ from the front of the trigger to the rear of the pad. The pad has faint wear. The stock rates in Fine-Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The barrel has a few light scuffs. There is scuffing on the bottom metal at the front edge of the magazine well. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the installed scope and a single 5-round magazine. 

Our Assessment: This is a Model 57-M LVT bolt action rifle from Cooper Firearms of Montana. Cooper made their way into the rifle market producing high-quality rifles at “affordable” prices, though their quality means that affordable is in relation to rifles such as Blaser, Dakota and other high-end manufacturers. Beginning in 1990 a handful of former employees from Kimber of Oregon, with over 50 years in combined experience, set out to design and build the finest production rifles made in the United States. They have been known as one of the top makers of bolt action rifles ever since. This example has a 24″ barrel chambered for .17 HM2, beautiful AA Claro walnut stock, and a matte blued finish. The fit matches the finish and this rifle just screams premium! Some brands claim their rifles are “the best”, “top of the line”, “the finest quality” but Cooper doesn’t need to say anything at all…their products speak for themselves. This is a gorgeous rifle that will make short work of paper targets and game alike while enhancing any collection lucky enough to have it. Please see our photos and good luck!
