Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of finish shows minimal wear from handling and operation. There appears to be old oil residue on the lower receiver around the magwell. The pins are clean and unmarred. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine+ to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The safety also functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. We have cleaned this firearm and performed a mechanic’s check but expect many will want to clean the firearm again depending on their standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Sling, one 20rd Colt magazine, original box, MACVSOG patch, and safety/instructions manual.
Our Assessment: A striking tribute to one of the most iconic carbine silhouettes of the Vietnam War era, this XM177E2-style commemorative carries the characteristic features that defined the original Colt commandos: the elongated faux-moderator muzzle device profile (in commemorative form), the slim carbine handguards, the short-barrel look adapted here to a 16″ legal length, and the classic fixed front sight tower. The forged receivers and period-correct furniture recreate the unmistakable stance of the late-1960s Colt carbines — compact, fast-handling, and visually tied to the LRRP, MACV-SOG, and early special-operations roles that made the XM177E2 a legendary configuration. This is personally one of my favorite AR configurations, and I hope whoever wins it thoroughly enjoys it. Be sure to check our detailed pictures for a better understanding of the firearm. -C.R.
