Our Assessment: The Colt Woodsman Match Target, introduced in 1938–39, was a purpose-built precision rimfire pistol designed to dominate bullseye and target competition—and it did. This example, a first-year production 1939 “Bullseye” model, is part of the revered First Series, featuring the distinctive elephant ear wraparound grips, heavy 6?” bull barrel, and finely adjustable target sights. Chambered in .22 LR and hand-fitted at Colt’s Hartford factory, these pistols have long been considered among the finest rimfire semi-autos ever made.
Whether you’re a shooter who values precision and trigger feel or a collector looking for a prime example of pre-war Colt craftsmanship, this early Match Target is as good as it gets. Be sure to check our detailed pictures for a better understanding of the firearm. -C.R.
