Our Assessment: The Colt Trooper Mk III represents Colt’s transition into a more modern, robust double action revolver design during the late 1960s through early 1980s, incorporating a new transfer-bar ignition system and coil springs in place of the earlier V-spring action. Built on the strong Mk III frame, the Trooper was intended as a versatile service and sporting revolver, and in .22 Magnum configuration it offered excellent accuracy, mild recoil, and outstanding durability. The long 8 inch barrel further emphasizes the model’s role as a precision-oriented revolver, well suited to target shooting, small game, and training use.
Chambered in .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire, this revolver reflects the cartridge’s mid-20th century rise as a higher-velocity alternative to .22 LR, prized for its flatter trajectory and increased energy. This example stands out for its excellent overall condition, high remaining original finish, sharp markings, and strong bore, all indicative of careful ownership. The combination of Colt craftsmanship, desirable rimfire chambering, and extended barrel length makes this Trooper Mk III a particularly appealing and well-preserved example from Colt’s later revolver era.
